About Us
Who Are We?
The Olabisi Onabanjo University Medical Students’ Association (OOUMSA) represents all students pursuing the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree at the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences (OACHS), Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu. Established to foster unity, development, and advocacy among medical students in OOU, OOUMSA serves as the official voice and support system for its members throughout their academic journey and beyond.
With a growing membership of over 500 students from 100L to 600L from diverse backgrounds, OOUMSA is committed to enhancing the welfare, academic growth, and holistic development of every medical student in OACHS, Sagamu. Our association organizes and facilitates a variety of programs that cover health awareness, professional development, cultural enrichment, and social engagement, aimed at nurturing well-rounded future healthcare professionals. Guided by the motto, “Pro Deo et Humanitate” (“For God and Humanity”), OOUMSA is dedicated to nurturing compassionate, ethical, and knowledgeable future physicians committed to serving humanity with integrity and purpose.
Our Mission
Our primary mission is to promote the welfare and academic interests of medical students at Olabisi Onabanjo University, creating a conducive environment that encourages excellence, collaboration, and community service. OOUMSA is dedicated to empowering students to not only excel academically but also to make meaningful contributions to healthcare in Nigeria and beyond. We believe that every OOUMSAite is on a journey to greatness, encapsulated by our inspiring slogan, “Til’ we gloriously emerge” which reflects our resilience, commitment to excellence, and drive to make a positive impact both within and outside the university.
Our Vision
As a unified body of medical students, OOUMSA envisions a community that embodies excellence, compassion, and responsibility. We aim to prepare our members not only to excel academically but also to emerge as leaders and innovators in healthcare, inspired to make a meaningful difference in their communities and beyond.
Objectives
- To cater for the general welfare, interest, and defend the rights of all members of the Association.
- To promote intellectual, social, cultural, and sporting activities of the Association.
- To provide a basis for interaction and cooperation among members of the Association and other sister associations in medical and related fields.
- To coordinate opinion and information in the field of medicine and contribute to the improvement of health conditions by taking part in as many activities as the Association deems fit
- To strive to maintain high standards of medical ethics among medical students. For more, refer to the OOUMSA Constitution.
